10 ways to take back your food sovereignty

In a talk during a recent Door To Freedom symposium, James Corbett of The Corbett Report highlighted practical, gradual steps like connecting with local food networks, avoiding processed foods, supporting local farmers, and growing our own food, to ensure our food independence and create healthier lives for our families.

Watch now:

Here are James’ 10 tips, briefly summarized:

  1. Don’t eat ze bugs: Resist narratives that say eating bugs is good for the planet and resisting them is racist. Also, be cautious because they will try to derive these insect-derived ingredients under barely comprehensible scientific names
  2. Don’t buy highly processed foods: A quick and easy way to do this – don’t shop in the middle of the supermarket where the bulk of processed foods are found. Stick to the outside aisles — produce, fresh meats, etc.
  3. Find local food sources: Connect with local farmers, ranchers, growers and producers. Start small – swap one thing from the supermarket with something you can get locally. Find out what exists in your area and start using those resources.
  4. Support food liberalization: We need more free trade in the most fundamental sense of that word — free human beings voluntarily and freely choosing to trade with each other in the way they wish, to grow whatever food they wish in the way they want, and transacting for those freely.
  5. Source GMO-free foods: If you start reducing what you buy from the supermarket you’re already moving in the right direction. Also, check resources like the non-GMO shopping guide.
  6. Rely on experts not “The Experts”: Seek out the guidance of people with no hidden agendas who can actually guide you towards ways you can take back your food, such as regenerative agriculture, for example.
  7. Grow your own food: Not only good for supplying yourself with nutrition but also for reminding yourself of the abundance of nature and the connection with the earth that food is all about.
  8. Share abundance: Participate in community groups and seek connections with those around you.
  9. Do not panic: They want you in a state of fear and helplessness. It’s OK to be aware and concerned about what’s happening, but understand that the future of food is ours to decide.
  10. Get informed: The only way to take your power back is to be aware of what’s going on. If we understand the parts of the agenda and where they’re steering us, we can counteract that agenda.
