Global organizations warn war-driven energy shock will raise food prices

A joint statement from the World Bank, IMF and U.N. World Food Programme warns that rising energy and fertilizer costs linked to the Middle East war will drive higher food prices and increase food insecurity worldwide.

The institutions said low-income, import-dependent countries face the greatest risk, especially those already burdened by debt and limited fiscal capacity. While a U.S.-Iran ceasefire was announced then later rescinded, ongoing regional attacks continue to disrupt energy markets, raising concerns about supply chains and fertilizer access.

The IMF said a full food crisis has not yet materialized, but could emerge if disruptions persist.
