Government report questions mainstream climate science, challenges greenhouse gas impacts

In July 2025, the U.S. Department of Energy released A Critical Review of Impacts of Greenhouse Gas Emissions on the U.S. Climate, authored by five scientists hand-picked by Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

The report raises skepticism over widely accepted climate models, suggesting that economic damages from CO₂-induced warming may be overstated and that aggressive emission-cutting policies could be counterproductive — claims that sharply diverge from the scientific consensus.
