The basics of wild foraging

During the 2023 Attack On Food Symposium organized by Door to Freedom, herbalist Sara Woods Kender took viewers through the essentials of foraging wild plants.

Watch now:

A native of New Hampshire, Kender lives on an off-grid homestead and is an avid wild forager of medicinal plants and mushrooms. She owns and operates an herbal apothecary and has been practicing and teaching herbal medicine for over 15 years.

In the talk, she emphasizes the importance of foraging in clean areas (versus old orchards, train tracks, or the sides of the road) to avoid pesticides. Also, find someone who can help identify the plants you find. While books are useful, an experienced wild forager can help avoid costly mistakes.

Watch the talk for more important tips and advice, how to identify some useful plants and what to use them for, and how to become more self-sufficient.
