White House farm event delivers little material relief for farmers

The Trump administration marked National Agriculture Day on March 27 by launching “OnlyFarms,” a White House-hosted website highlighting its farm policies, alongside a gold-painted tractor displayed on the South Lawn.

The new web platform features a state-by-state map of claimed savings tied to administration policies, while new measures include expanded SBA loan guarantees and relaxed diesel emissions rules.

The rollout comes as farmers continue to face rising fuel and fertilizer costs linked to tariffs and geopolitical tensions, raising questions about whether branding and regulatory tweaks are addressing the deeper pressures on the agricultural sector.

Framed as the start of a “golden age” for American agriculture, the plan emphasizes reducing regulatory burdens and increasing financial support, including a previously distributed $12 billion in tariff-funded aid.

Critics note that while these steps may ease short-term pressures, they rely heavily on deregulation — potentially increasing exposure to pollutants and chemicals — without addressing underlying drivers such as energy prices, input costs, and global trade disruptions.
