Kayem Foods Recalls 1.6 Million Pounds of Meat Over Refrigeration Failures
Massachusetts-based Kayem Foods has recalled approximately 1.6 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products after discovering that a warehouse cooler had experienced temperature fluctuations that may have compromised food safety.
According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the problem came to light following a retailer’s complaint about products arriving at unusually warm temperatures.
The recall covers products manufactured between March 31 and October 7, 2026, and distributed to retailers and foodservice establishments across the United States and Hong Kong. Although no illnesses have been confirmed, improper refrigeration can allow harmful bacteria to multiply, even in fully cooked products.
Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators for affected products bearing USDA establishment numbers EST. M/P 7839, EST. P 20935A, or EST. M 9520 and discard or return them.
The recall highlights the vulnerability of centralized food distribution systems, where a single refrigeration failure can affect millions of pounds of food.
