The handbook argues that consolidation has gutted rural prosperity and left farmers trapped in unfair markets. It offers concrete steps for state policymakers and advocates: limit corporate and foreign land ownership, strengthen enforcement of fair competition laws, pass right-to-repair protections, reform commodity checkoff programs, and crack down on deceptive labeling. It also pushes states to invest in regional meat processing, protect public seed access, and align procurement dollars with local, sustainable producers.
The guide’s message is blunt: Washington may be gridlocked, but statehouses have the authority to curb corporate abuses and restore balance to America’s food system.
